OUR STORY
The Troubles started when the pills stopped working, when the bed of a truck became just a bed, and Old Crow became dinner for John-Ross Boyce.
He would scratch out a few new tunes on an old guitar to keep his fingers from freezing. When he needed a few bucks, The Bad News Boyce booked a gig and showed up on the doorstep of the only drummer he knew, Dirty Dave Newlin, begging for a backer.Newlin agreed to play, but would swill and sway, requiring someone to hold him upright behind the set.But he never missed a beat.
After a few months, the Bad News showed up at his old lady’s house, only to find her sleeping next to Doc Barlow, who was meditating peacefully. They both knew what happened, but Doc had a bass with him, and thus became a Trouble in short order.
Mean ol’ Ryan Moore walked unannounced into a practice one day, bloody and missing a few fingernails. He had bested the Devil in a contest he refused (and still refuses) to discuss, and became a Trouble as an eternal punishment for outsmarting Satan. He was accepted readily.
Prodigal Tom Perry completed the lineup when he awoke from a DMT trip on stage with the band, sitting behind a keyboard and having no idea how he got there. With his hallucinatory playing, the show went better than any before, and having nothing else left for him, Tom stayed with the band.
Since that time, the John-Ross Boyce and his Troubles have menaced the homes and venues of Utah County without repose, trailing midnight and sorrow in their wake. Their only allies are each other, and with no small amount of sardonic wit and cynical sensibility, they bring music and woe to their fans, who beyond all reason, keep coming back for more.
